As first time home buyers, there are many things we didn't know about the process. We were lucky to have Hilary (and her partner Darcie from the PDX Green Team) by our side.

Looking back, I distinctly see four stages:

1. Finding a house. After setting us up on the system to receive listings of houses that we might be interested in, Hilary was very flexible in showing us houses. She was extremely accommodating with our schedule by setting up late afternoon appointments since both my husband and I have full time jobs. She figured out the best route to follow to tour the houses to make the best use of our time; she drove us there instead of taking two cars so that she could ask our impressions of the previous house on the trip to the next one. She made sure to research each house and talk to the listing agent before we even got there, and she was very straightforward regarding not only the current state of each house, but also what we could expect regarding repairs, maintenance, and market value in the future.

2. Inspecting the house. Hilary recommended great companies to do the inspections; we were really happy with the thoroughness and punctuality of the inspectors we got, particularly the General Inspector (Don Hatch). They were very clear regarding major repairs that would be required (in the tens of thousands of dollars) and they steered us away from these very expensive options. Hilary was also extremely helpful in contacting different contractors to estimate the repairs; she called them and met them at the house without us even needing to be there, which was very convenient for us. We also got good recommendations for every kind of contractor we needed after we got the house (paint, floor refinishing, tree trimming, general contractor).

3. Making an offer. Hilary provided us with information regarding similar houses in the area recently sold; but in the end she didn't try to influence our decision. We made our own research on comparable homes (taking into account major upgrades and repairs) and decided to make the offer that we felt comfortable with.

4. Getting the loan. We had a mortgage broker help us get our loan, and Hilary kept in close touch with him the last few weeks before closing. She kept us in the loop regarding everything that went on with the mortgage broker, the title company, the previous owners moving out; everything. I think that's what I liked best about working with Hilary (and Darcie of course): the fact that they were clear and constant in their communications; we received quick responses via email or phone (practically any day at any hour) and we never felt like we were being kept out of the loop or just didn't know what was going on.

In short, we are now happy homeowners and I don't think we could have done it without the professional, patient and encouraging support of Hilary and Darcie.

Hilary took the lead for the house-hunt portion of the process, helping me figure out which houses were worth looking at, and coordinating viewings. She managed to get a pile of them all on one day so i could screen out the ones that just weren't right for us. She was full of tips and pointers on things that non-realty-people might not notice, especially the craftsmanship (or lack thereof) in the houses. She knew which houses were in good school districts. She was an invaluable resource.

She had a vacation that happened to be right after we had our offer on a great house accepted, and seamlessly handed the reins over to her partner Darcie. Darcie took great care of us (see my review on her page).

When all was said and done, the house was ours, and when Hilary was back in town, she even took a picture of us standing in front of our awesome new house holding the 'SOLD' sign.

And of course, for a nice warm fuzzy feeling to cap it all off, they donate part of their commissions to the charity of your choice.

I never knew that an agent could be so responsive and service oriented. I was happy to pay for her services and shutter to think where I would be if I'd tried to do that monumental task on my own. She though of everything, down to the very last detail, and had flowers waiting for me when I moved in so my house felt like a home from the first moment I lived there.

I cannot express how happy I am with Margit and her service to me and my family. She is 100% amazing and know she loves what she does and is truly talented at it!
